bicyclist on the road
What about this agrument, the road wasn't ment for exercise. Roads are ment for transportation. Thats why again i think in the city its cool if people drive bikes on the road. There was a reason people invented gyms and created parks.

I paid 7% sales tax taxes on my $2500 Trek bike. Register exercise equipment? Uh no. My home owners insurance through State Farm will cover any damage if I crash into car.I agree that the same traffic laws should apply.
I use to cycle all the time, just about everyday. People who drive are idiots sometimes and people who cycle can be idiots too. The law is you must treat them like anyother motor vehicle. Cyclist are also bound to the rules of the road. Back in highschool this girl I knew actually recived a moving violation on her bike. With that said you have to respect them and they have to respect you. Obviously any car is bigger and sometimes that plays in to how we treat cyclist, which sometimes can be very deadly.

I don't understand why people hate bicycles on the road so much... I know that they can be dangerous though... my sister almost ran one over when he lost his balance and teetered then fell right in front of her car. She got stopped in time not to hit him, but did end up hitting his bicycle. Poor guy was pretty shook up though... she felt really bad because she bent his tire...
and I was following a van once that dumped a whole big gulp over a bicyclist.
So I know that you're really taking your life in your hands when you ride your bike on the streets, but it's the same with driving really... you never know when somebody's going to run a light or worse...
Just try for some courteousness and understanding... I try to pass them using a whole other lane, but if that doesn't work I always slow down going around them...

yes but how do you know they are cycling for exercise? sometimes in big cities its just easier to cycle around, or people sometimes cant afford a car so they get a bike, im sure there are tons of reasons besides exercise that people ride their bikes.

Whats wrong with driving in parks or neighborhoods?
Since many of the posters here brag about how fast they drive on the streets, perhaps they should be limited to driving on the track and autocross course. That's just as reasonable a suggestion.
