Default Bike riders!

Well funny about how there was a post on this before but it just happened to me.
I was crusing down a 4 lane road with busy traffic on both sides since it was 5pmish. Up ahead I notice cars swerving to the left to avoid something and going into the left lane which isn't to safe. So then as I get closer its a bike rider.

Now to the right of the biker is a nice empty sidewalk very big which no one uses.

So I'm like this isn't safe for both parties. I do the same move when I pass the biker because he seems oblvious to the traffic and mess hes creating. So next thing I know the light is Red. Guess who is right behind me? Yes the bike rider.

He has to stop when he reaches my car because there is no gap on the street and traffic is also stopped all around me so I can't move. He starts yelling about something. Couldnt make it out since top and windows was up and stereo on a lil. I think he said move to the side? Or maybe he said Nice Ride!

I just give him a pissed and raised my hands up cause I was so shocked with him thinking he owns the road and trying to push cars out the way. Light then turns green and I go.

I'm not hating on all riders but just wanted to share this.

Okay it is illegal for cyclists to use the sidewalk. Second, he is most likely more than aware of the traffic he's causing. It is his right to use the road unless there is a "No Cyclists" sign. I think it pisses everybody off at least a little bit. Old people used to think I shouldn't drive because of loud music. Doesn't mean I'm doing anything wrong.

I doesn't sound like he was doing anything either particularly unsafe or illegal. The fact he was stopped next to you shows he was respecting the rules of the road, i.e., stopping at the light, rather than rolling through. Unfortunately, there are very few bike lanes, (one around here lasts for all of three blocks on a one way street.)
Some reminders:
Cyclists have the same right to the road as drivers do unless specifically restricted.
They must ride with traffic.
They should signal and take the left lane to make a left turn, just like a car; they are not expected to get off the bike and use a crosswalk as they are not pedestrians.
They must obey all traffic signs and signals.
In some localities, though not all, they are forbidden from riding on the sidewalk.
They must ride in single file.
They should wear a helmet.
And lastly, their use of a bike for commuting purposes helps reduce our dependence on non renewable resources.

i think we had this same conversation on this board about a year ago....

when i ride my bike on the road (not that often) I always stay in the berm...which around here is usually paved and about 2' wide...... usually in traffic I get passed, but then the next light turns red..... so I ride past everyone to the front.....then the same people have to pass me about 20 times....ahaha...

if the road is tight on the side then have some patients....the bike rider should understand and should be trying to do what he can to accomidate people as well..... but there are always the idiot bikers and the idiot drivers

If he is impeding traffic at 5pm he should consider an alternate route.
