we have a yellow lab. He's a great family dog. 85 lbs and my 18 month walls all over him. Note, there is a difference between American and English labs. I have an American and if I'd known I'd have gotten an English. American ones are bigger and more hyper.

All dogs are kick ass though
Yeah they are nice dogs, but I understand they often suffer from mental problems, as did my friend's. Great dog until she finally bit everyone in the family and they had to put her down.
Our neighbors on the left have a "brown dog" named Mike.
Our friend Mike, in turn, has a brown named Jake.
Our neighbors across the street has a brown named Moses.
Our neighbor two houses down from there has one but I don't remember his name.
They each seem to have a fairly different personalities (ages range a lot too though) but they're each friendly in their own way.
I have two chocolates. Very good dogs. Nice demeanor. Need exercise and attention or they can get into stuff out of boredom. Highly recommend crate training to housebreak them. Or you could adopt an older one that may already be broken. We picked up one of our last summer. He is about 9 years old but still full of energy and completely trained.
And another thing, what do you call a choc lab? There's a handful of names that really fit -- Bosco, Bear, Hershey, Truffle, Coco (Cocoa), Moose (mousse), Chip, Brownie, ...
We had a Chocolate Lab (Sara) before we got STARR! our white German Shepherd. Sara was a great dog, only thing she was probably the only Lab that wouldn't swim...She'd wade into water as deep as she could stand in but no further. It was her job to bring in the paper from the time she was around six months old up to about two days before she died...
