Default Could use (host header) for IIS help for win2k svr

Ok i own 4hrsmen.com
and i can get to my website from http://4hrsmen.com
i want it to be www.4hrsmen.com
So i go to iis management,
rt click on my webpage and go to properties. Then i go to advanced (button right next to the ip addy)
there is a box that says multiple identities for this website. i double click on the default
it says all

top box (all ip addy's)
middle (port: 80)
then the bottom box host header value: i put in www.4hrsmen.com
is that correct? Do i need to add anythign into my dns? PLEASE HELP!
Thanks
-Peter

I can't exactly check from behind the firewall at the moment, but it sounds like a DNS issue, not and IIS config matter. You just need to update your DNS record to include a www host for your domain.

I don't think it matters since don't all domain names go to the same IP Address?

You could always change your lmhosts file in your windows/system directory to point there.... but that may not solve your overall problem.

I remember reading about how to do this in IIS training in 2000, so if you need it fixed, I can look it up.

Nah, cuz www.domain.com could be a completely different server from ftp.domain.com, fred.domain.com, dallas.texas.us.domain.com, and so on.

ig ot it working. say your domain is 4hrsmen.com
if you want to get www.4hrsmen.com to be your web url then you have to edit hte host header and make the header (www.4hrsmen.com) and then add a dns A host file for www ( it automatically adds the .4hrsmen.com) it's that easy. When you want to add another site. say... www.sam.4hrsmen.com you go to the new web and edit it's host header (www.sam.4hrsmen.com) and then you go to dns and add a host A file for sam.4hrsmen.com ( because you already have the www in there) it's very easy.
