Dealer mark-up at Ford
Ha! I just love that market adjustment thing. I would love to see just one time where it said "dealer gouge" instead. Who would pay $80K for a ford let alone $50. You can get a Panoz for the same money and I'd sure rather one of those.
the cobra r models are usually said for by the time they reach the dealer. I'm not sure why they are selling theirs on the showroom floor either. You must qualify to purchase one. You must sign a slip of paper that says you will race it X nubmer of times a year (2 or 3 I think) and you must have an SCCA license as well. At least, this was for the first few years they produced the r model. Has it changed since? If so, Ford, once again, is scraping at the bottom of the barrel - just like their Thunderbird-comeback attempt to be retro.
According to this Car and Driver Review, $55,845 is the price of this beast. This dealer's markup is quite absurd. But it makes things legal when running in A Sedan.

Pretty sad when you think that all Mustangs are still based on a very old sedan chassis (notice how tall the seating?) that just recently was upgraded (on the Cobra only, and not that successfully) to an independent rear suspension.
old sedan chassis? you mean the Fairmont? yes, that's right, the Ford Fairmont's fox body. I wonder if that's still being used. Seems like the same platform, the unibody, which isn't exactly a single piece, but more like a front frame and a rear frame tied together by two doors, glass, and the top. I take it, its still go the live axle? Or has it gone to IRS?
