Spike...

I've been taking my intra-oral photography with a Nikon Coolpix 950. It does beautiful macro, and you prob won't need a ring flash. I could send you some sample pics if you like.

The problem I've encountered is with extra-oral/facial photographs. Because the flash is fixed to one side of the lens, I have to rotate the camera/take photos upside down at times so that I don't cast unwanted shadows (especially with profile photos).

Apparently, there's an excellent Lester-Dine unit available now with software included.

I got a Ricoh RDC-7 http://www.ricohzone.com/cameras_fs.htm
3.3mp, shoots avi's, and comes with an LI battery.
List was $999 but I got it from buy.com for $583

Mine is a bit older...

the Kodak DC290Zoom, a pretty good camera, although like any technology there are now better things that cost less

The picture quality is great, and the USB makes quick work of transfers... No complaints, does pretty much what I need.

I found this site helpful when I was shopping for one:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

got the Nikon Coolpix 990 for work and I love it. The quality continues to amaze me and the macro on it is great too. With the USB connection on it it takes only seconds to download pictures which is also nice. It can also take short video clips (without sound)
