Default Dish Network $999 HDTV deal

Has anyone done this yet? For $999 they give you the dish and reciever plus a 34" widescreen Hidef TV. Seems like a great deal. I am already a Dish network customer and I am very happy, thinking about doing this. Any thoughts?

Depends on the model of the TV and the legnth of commitment. If they are charging you the monthly fee for renting the high def receiver, and the extra monthly fee for the hd service, the only thing that is really "free" is the TV you are paying a grand for. Some models of HDTV can still have HORRIBLE pictures with very dull color depending on the model. Remember, you get what you pay for and I would rather pick the model TV I like and find it for the right price than pay $1000 for what might be last year's model of some no name brand. I would go look around and see if you can find one you like for a little more or a little less because you will pay the same for service either way and will not have to commit to a long term contract if something better comes along.

I bought a nice Mitsu 55 inch rear projection and LOVE it, but it even with an EXCELLENT deal on this particular model I still paid $2400 for it.

Unless you are a real video/tv junkie I would not be too quick to jump into HD tv's. There is not a whole lot of programming availible although it increases everyday. It is the best for sports but even espn HD only carries on or two games a week in HD and 90% of the time, the games they carry do not interest me. And lastly, the prices on equipment are falling all the time, you may be able to wait six months (right around football season!) and find a better tv for less than you can find today.

They are definately cool, but pricey and unless you use them alot, most people will not find that they are worth it just yet. But if you have one and a progressive scan DVD player, movies look excellent.

The free tv, dvd players etc they give you on the sat dish deals are junk. you are better off getting one on your own for a little bit more money.

I know.. i am a dishnetwork and directv dealer.

That's funny since TechTV-Fresh Gear did a recent review on it. They gave the system (the one with the 35" hdtv) pretty high marks.

i believe Chinese made DVD players are in the $20~$25 range FOB HK or Yantian these days. So if you buy in bulk, i'm sure the people giving things away are walking away with laughing because consumers think they got a good deal.

Besides, I think that is for new customers only....one of the downfalls of being a dedicated customer

not true, they told me that current customers can get the same deal. I really want to see this TV before I do this. Does anyone know where I can do that?
