I'm not going to go through 2 pages of answers but F the SUV! I'll bet you could buy a brand-new WRX 4 door (not the hatchback) and the kid will fit in the backseat for at least the next 5 yrs, probably more. Might also want to consider the Lancer Rally Art.
I wouldn't go w/ the Genesis coupe because there isn't much room in the back seat as it is so there won't be much for him to grow into. Maybe the Genesis sedan though. They're close to the same price I think.

Sounds like you have no idea how much space a rearward facing car seat takes up.
We did the first 4 years with sedans. Infinti g35 sedan, then a v6 Accord sedan. Both were fine.
Growing up there were two kids and nothing but 2 door cars; 70 vega, 69 Vw Beetle, 78 Monte Carlo, 83 Accord, 72 Buick Skylark. Of course we never wore seat belts.

Fwiw...from a womens pov... I never thought myself as a minivan person, but when baby #2 came, we got an Oddysey. I loved it. I hope you can get her to go look at it. It made life so much easier with the rear entertainment and the power sliding doors were great ESP when raining. Good luck and congrats!
My wife was "no minivan". I did not want one either.
My wife has two daughters from a previous marriage. We ended up buying a Ridgeline. That covered us when our son arrived.
I then had to PCS (move to another base) from Tampa, FL to Abq. NM. That was fun... Not. I drove the S with stuff filled in the trunk and the passenger seat. My wife and our oldest daughter took turns driving the Ridgeline.
The Ridgeline had plenty of room for everything. I bought a weather proof tarp and covered all the kids stuff and the small clothing bags for everyone. I even got the roof box and that helped out and actually looks nice when it is on the truck.
At least that is another option than a minivan.
Plus I can use the Ridgeline for any other uses I need.
