How about being a librarian?

 

I did some work for a humane society - a non-government no-kill shelter - and they have a core group who are paid. The director, admin, and one or two others I believe. No clue how much they got paid, but the director probably got well more than $11k.

 

Get a job at a mortuary. Plenty of peace and quiet. Pays well too.
