We need to start a "Dark side of Dubai thread"

Most of you wouldn't want to step foot in Dubai after finding out some things.
Most people wouldn't want to go to the US if they found out some things...

See the relation? We all have warts, Dubai is a very cool place. The "Dark side of the USA" would be a much longer thread.

Built on the backs of Indian workers, at very poor wages.

Travel Report from Dubai with photos in a room at the Burj Al Arab 7 star hotel and some insight on the cultural differences.

NSFW!

And thus not allowed. Link removed.

There is a lot more to Dubai than meets the eye. All these projects are very funny to me. Sure, everyone will call me a "hater" but the fact of the matter is, Dubai is accumulating huge debt building all this glitz. Dubai, simply doesn't have money. Well, that is a strong statement, but in reality, they just don't have enough to fund all these massive projects. I know they are trying to build up the city so they have some sort of economy after the oil runs out, but in 30 years time, maintaining all this infrastructure will be a seriously difficult task. They are now building the worlds biggest Arch bridge. Their housing market is not even remotely close to what they expected.

They seriously need to slow it down, or else they will bankrupt themselves, and have a lot of pretty empty shells.

You are 100% correct. I run a debt collection firm here in the states and recently I have been receiving inquiries from US owned businesses operating in Dubai. Several developers working on the hotesl are refusing to pay for products and services purchased.

On a side note...My friend tried to visit Dubai after visiting Israel and was not permitted to enter due to the fact that he had the stamp on his passport. He was also put in a holding cell as they searched his things. When finished searching they left the room and watched him gather his clothing that was thrown all over the room.

I am not "hating" on Dubai in any way, I'm just listing some facts.

Hope they can keep tourist interest long enough to pay off the bills for these structures. It will be interesting to see how this "My penis is bigger than yours" game will play out.

And dont go there if you have a stamp on your passport from Israel.

That has to do with Israel. If he went anywhere in the middle-east, they would have done the same thing.

It's pretty amazing the extent at which the entire middle-east tries to isolate Israel. In fact, if you try to ship a product to the middle-east, and it's even partially in transit on an Israeli boat, they'll reject the shipment.

Or rather, if you go to Israel, don't let them stamp your passport.
