That has to do with Israel. If he went anywhere in the middle-east, they would have done the same thing.
It's pretty amazing the extent at which the entire middle-east tries to isolate Israel. In fact, if you try to ship a product to the middle-east, and it's even partially in transit on an Israeli boat, they'll reject the shipment.

Where are their great schools?
http://www.aus.edu/
Sorbonne has a branch campus in abu dhabi, Harvard med is going to be there soon, Michigan state will be in dubai soon too...........
FYI Cornell, CMU also have branches in middle east.
Salaries they pay for faculty is much better than what a comparable American institution would pay so they can get very good people to teach in these schools.
Gaja
lived there for 18 years and in toronto for 8..definately not what i remember of it..going back in dec, everybody makes very valid points..they are spending the dough one every aspect to make sure it is successful for tourists..and yes it is built on poor indian workers, but that has always been the case.
keep inmind dubai is essentially tax free, which makes a huge difference.
i remember going out every weekend with my dad in the sand dunes and randomly getting lost and we would come across random camps where they would house these workers..it was sad, i am sure its a lot worse today with all the construction.
BTW: i sell property in dubai through the 2nd biggest realtor there, so i get a little insight from a realtor standpoint..if anyboydy is interested..cheaper than the sales center from the builders while being property managed..

I agree all that looks really great
might run into a small problem of global warming and the rising sea levels...

on both points but with towers that high I'm sure they'll manage something. Dubai looks to be a pretty thriving place (for the time being). I'd like to hear some input from members of our community living there. I know we have at least a couple from past posts on the boards.

... You can fly KLM to Amsterdam then direct to Dubai...
The mandatory sentence for drug possession in the emirate, big or small, is four years in the clink. Some of the dangerous smugglers the astute customs officials have picked up recently include.
Keith Andrew Brown, who received four years for less than a gram of marijuana, an amount invisible to the naked eye,

Dubai: 4 years in jail for drug, even traces of drug stuck to bottom of shoes.
I don't think this is a good flight connection.
