Imagine trying to convince the wife why you would like the 2005 C2S 911 for $42k over the 05 C6 Vette for $40k.
Her: Is the Porsche faster?
You: No.
Her: Does it corner better?
You: No.
Her: Does it brake better?
You: No.
Her: Are maintenance and replacement parts more expensive?
You: Yes.
Her: Do you have any good reason to spend $2k more on a car that doesn't have more "performance?"
You: Well, the heritage of the company and the classic, timeless design...
Her: I don't care.
You: Vette owners wear gold chains and have hairy chests!
Her: I don't care, you can wear some of my necklaces and you'll fit right in.
You: But the interior is so much nicer in the Porsche!
Her: You can spend $1000 to get the Vette reupholstered and still save $1000.
You: You suck! I wanna buy it! Because I wanna, I wanna, I waaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnaaaaaaaaa!!!!
You, my friend, have just argued for a $2k purse. It doesn't do anything better than a Walmart purse, but the experience aspect counts. If you nag on them, you're in the same boat as the wives that make their husbands drive minivans.

i dunno why you guys cant seem to understand women wanting to spend such X amount of money on brandname purses...
to put things into perspective, purses and shoes etc are like S2000s to us.
why buy a 2000 dollar amuse exhaust system when you can buy a fake ebay exhaust for 100??
same thing!

Spending $2k on those wheels or $1000 for an exhaust or $2000 for some seats is pretty stupid too than right? Rather than buying car parts that really do nothing except maybe help with aesthetics (isn't that what a bag does for a girl too?) why don't you go put that money into a CD (oh they are paying 1% or less these days, which means you lose $ according to inflation).I'm still thinking hard on a J's 60r titanium single
What irks me is that some of these "entry level" LVs are almost a grand and aren't even made of leather. How are you going to look me in the eye and ask for $800 for a canvas bag with a bunch of letters on it?
BTW, Ferragamos and Fendis are "old lady" bags. All these asian women flock to LV until about 40 or 50, and then the start collecting Ferragamos and Fendis - the understated bags with monster buckles/logos.
But you have to give LV credit; they're in a great position market-wise where they can charge substantially more than their contemporaries (Gucci, Coach, Burberry) and still enjoy great marketshare, popularity, and pop culture cache. They never go on sale or get marked down. The same products actually go up in retail price over time. But at the same time, they haven't tried to join the "ultra-lux high end" market where Hermes is at. Genius.
OP, if you're going to get the LV, go to the LV store. Other chicks may have the same bag, but your sister obviously doesn't care. If uniqueness/rarity was most important, every piece of clothing or accessory would be a one-off instead of mass-produced. And if you don't like the price, remember that that's the exact reason your sister - and most asian women in general - like it.
Or you could get on the Hermes waiting list and put that $2k in a 80/20 portfolio. By the time your name comes up, you might have half of the cost saved up. At least those bags can appreciate in value.
