I used to be the biggest Glock naysayer in the world.. after years of trouble-free ownership of my Glock carry-piece, I can tell you that they do, in fact, function reliably.

I've put hundreds of rounds through my Model 26 at the range in one sitting without any mis-feeds, jams, etc. I cannot say as much for my Colt Officer's Model .45. Great piece and totally tuned for target work, but not the most reliable pistol in the world.

To the question about "Why?"... Fun (target practice), Protection (Carry Permit)...

I've only had one occasion where I had to pull a gun on someone... and on that one occasion I was being robbed at knife-point in the bustling metropolis of Winnemucca, NV. Suffice to say I was scared sh!tless, but the old adage does, indeed, hold true: "Don't bring a knife to a gun-fight."

Sorry, I never said anything about need. But then, there are very few things we truly need in life. Who needs an S2000?

Slightly off topic: they are finally working on a CCW bill in Ohio!!! And lame-duck Taft has recanted his initial threat to veto.

Glock 17 9mm, I've shot the S&W and others but it's no comparison, the Glock's weight is distributed better. Very easy to field strip.

As for the poster Me Th222 asking why carry? You've never been to Fayetteville, NC. (a.k.a. FayetteNam)

For your price range check around for used Glocks and Sigs. Many cities have gun stores which cater to cops - they'll often carry used Glocks and Sigs that they took on trade-in...
