Which Handgun to get?
I would also recommend the HK USP line. I got rid of my S&W .40 cal and am looking for a replacement, though I'll probably get the .45 USP compact rather than a 9mm. My only handgun now is my Desert Eagle .44 and I want something smaller. I do miss my Ruger .22 LR though, so I may pick that up first (they're so much fun, and cheap ammo too!)
I purchased a Glock 17 about 10 years ago on advice from a friend in the service and have had zero problems with it, Since this was my first handgun I didn't have much to compare it too,
Since then I have fired many different guns and for me my Glock feels very comfortable - There are alot of really good handguns out there, Sig's,Walther, h&k's etc... whatever you choose just make sure it has good reliability!

I know this is kinda off topic but....
Im a Canadian. I lived in the US for a while. My wife and her family are all americans. I was amazed by some of the things I heard while living in the US. People talking about owning and carrying a gun for PROTECTION. Do you people really think this way? Are you that afraid? I have honestly never thought of buying a gun, especially not for protection. I don't feel threatened in any way where I live, I don't need to worry about getting robbed, mugged, shot...you name it. I feel very fortunate right now. thanks guys.

And if you ever need to pull it on anyone, you can always do the line from the movie "Snatch."
..."The fact that you have 'replica' written down the side of your gun, and the fact that I have 'Desert Eagle .50' written down the side of mine should precipitate your balls into shrinking."

I love my S&W 457. Compact, accurate, reliable, and hey it IS a .45 which is a bonus to me. If I am going to defend my life and put a hole in a fellow human being, I prefer the hole be as large as possible thereby facilitating an immediate halt of aggression with the minimum number of rounds fired. $399.00 brand new, load it with Cor-Bon +p loads and you have all you need.
This is strange, I dont know anyone that ever had to "defend their life" with their fists not to mention a GUN. I hear all this defend my life talk and it freaks me out. Talking about putting holes in people......HOLY SHIT!!!! that's scary stuff man. I find it really amazing that in the US (I lived their for a while) that you can pretty much have all the violence you want on TV but no nudity whatever. It's almost the opposite here in Canada. I personally find nudity much more normal than excessive violence. Maybe all that violence is getting your heads or something. Unbelievable.
We can't even buy hand guns here....because they are useless to the everyday person.
