We can't even buy hand guns here....because they are useless to the everyday person.

If you have to carry a gun for protection, I feel sorry for you. I'd move out of whevever you are in a minute. I lived in Toledo for a while. That city is a complete shithole IMO of course. Too many wanna be gangsters, or gangsters in general for that matter and way too much scary stuff going on there. I didnt live there too long. Maybe I'm just not tough enough....
I just love being able to walk downtown in Ottawa (Canada's Capital) a city of over 1.1 million people at any time of day or night, and not worry about getting shot, mugged, beat etc.
Some of you are making me feel better and better about moving back to Canada with my American wife.
Im not trolling for flames, just stating a point. I too can get a gun if I wanted (believe me guns do exist in Canada) people just don't see the need to have one most of the time.
cheers.

I'm another Canadian blown away by the idea of owning a gun for protection. Have I fired pistols before? Sure I have. But I've never, ever thought it neccessary to have one on me.
I like the idea that in a city of 1 million people, I can walk down the street at night, by myself, and feel safe.

Ok.....I see trying to shed light on a subject here only leads to having my country ridiculed. I have not mentioned anything relating to your rights of your amendments yet my country (the world's greatest country IMO of course) get's bashed because were ruled by the BRITS???? What are you talking about???? Were are certainly not ruled by the brits by any means. We pass 100% of our laws. The monarchy is still around as a formality only. Kinda like Australia. I understand that in your country (the USA) guns are still rampant, that is what I am talking about. I am just baffled at this type of mentality and I've been pointing that out with as much respect as possible, I assure you.
I by no means wish to say that our laws are better than your laws etc.
As for the comparison of a gun to a sports car. There is no comparison. A gun is weapon, was designed as a weapon (except for sport guns etc of course), a sports car can be used as a weapon but so can my toaster or my baseball bat. A sports car is an oversized toy for adults. A gun like in this discussion is often used for self protection. I dont know many guys who bought a honda s2000 to protect themselves. I just don't see the need to have a gun for self protection. Im not talking about owning a gun in general. You guys have the "right" to own a gun, fine, own em. Im just saying that the fact some of you feel you need to have them not for fun/hunting/the sport of shooting targets but for protection against other humans is very scary to me. capiche?
And please don't make fun of Canada. It's a great country as is the USA. No cheap shots and low blows please. We're older and smarter than that.

This debate is completely pointless - the people on both sides almost never change their minds... But I don't understand why you canucks must hijack a thread comparing guns and try to prove that your cities are safer.
All this anecdotal 'I feel safe in OUR cities' bullshit is just that - bullshit. I feel safe in US cities - does that prove anything? Just because I feel safe not carrying a gun, and don't feel the need to expound upon my philosophies on the street corner, and have never had the need to tell a cop to get off my property doesn't mean I'm willing to give up the rights that give me those choices.
Now back to the guns, damnit!
HK, Sig, Glock, Beretta - can't go wrong with semi-autos from any of them. As far as revolvers are concerned, I've always had a strong preference for Ruger - they're built like tanks.
Yeah.....you all feel safe in the US....that's why many of you in the thread feel the need to have guns for PROTECTION.
sounds like you're all safe to me....
that's some funny stuff.
Oh and we don't need to prove anything about our cities being safer, just look at the facts. Theyre out there.
By the way, I never talked about rights and in every single post you mention rights. I said, to me there's nothing wrong with owning guns, pretty much everyone in my family has rifles for hunting. Im talking about owning them for PROTECTION!!!
that's what my point has been the whole time and somehow you've been able to tip toe around my point in all your posts. Hey man, Im not pushing my philosophies, Im simply asking a question to people who feel the need to own a gun to protect themselves from other human beings. That question is WHY?
Im still wondering where the queen and bashing my country come in to this conversation....
There is no monarchy of Canada, never has been.

I knew that the monarchy of england is not the monarchy of canada
