How do you dress?

I haven't read through this entire thread but I don't think you should stop wearing the "youthful" clothes you once loved and adored.
However, I think there's a time and place for everything. I'm not a huge fan of girls who constantly get "dressed" up to check the mail, get the morning paper, get gas from the gas station or go to their local coffee shops. Nor am I a fan of guys who constantly dress like they slept in a garbage can.
I know from growing up, I wasn't allowed to wear any socks that had holes in them or two different coloured socks and to make sure if I was wearing "dress" clothes that I acted properly instead of a child when wearing them.
My style has changed, but ever so slowly. I couldn't afford to buy from the big named companies so I would wear stuff from Walmart or Winners. Now that I can afford it, it's a bit of a turn off at times when I know I can get the same Nine West high heel shoes at Walmart for 80% off.

Having said that though, with the exception of some, I think many people style up a little because their preferences change. I'm comfortable with the changes to my style because I look back at what we wore in high school and it just wasn't flattering. Big clothes, wearing things that only feel good at the expense of looking like a bum (ie sweat pants and t shirts or "wife beaters" from time to time) is something that I just grew out of.
Girls, on the other hand, look great in comfy clothes like workout stuff and Lululemon has been pretty integral in helping that type of clothing regain popularity and acceptance. I think the mismatched socks, comfort over appearance is a hell of a lot more attractive on girls than the amount of effort and dressing up every time they go anywhere.
My ex gf was the supreme bargain shopper at Winners and Walmart. I learned pretty quickly not to give her a look of disapproval when she showed up carrying 8 or so bags of clothes after a shopping day. Winners and Walmart meant she'd spend less than $200 on all of it, and picking and choosing meant she looked good in pretty much all her selections.

57 and I still wear t-shirts and Levis. My t-shirts usually have something written on them. I occasionally put on a button up Hawaiian shirt with my jeans or shorts.

Brooks Brothers (shirts). Not only will these shirts last you for years, it'll save you hundreds of dollars on dry cleaning bills since these shirts really don't need to be dry cleaned. Just wash them as instructed and it's crisp out of the dryer. I'm wearing BB shirts from 2 ~ 3 years ago and it still looks like new, and their conservative style won't go away.
For the rest of my clothing I hit local specialty shops. Harry Rosen is about as mainstream as I get, but their suits are so boring. They don't bring in any of the nice Hugo Boss stuff.
I have a local shop here that brings in Tiger of Sweden, simply the best suit I've ever worn. I walked right into it. Amazing price for the quality you get. If my whole wardrobe could be Tiger of Sweden, it would be. But it's hard to find.
I've also bought some Matinique jackets and shirts from there as well. Well tailored, a little pricey for the shirts.
For work I wear a suit. Casually I wear a dress shirt and jeans, or a T-shirt with a suit jacket and jeans.
You can't find the good stuff at any of the big name stores. Banana Republic isn't that bad, I did buy a jacket there once. But compared to the quality of the items I can get at the local shops, it's crap.
