you might see more lbs come off in the first week or so, then you level out a bit more. some people will probably laugh but my wife started weight watchers about two months ago and started going to the gym more readily (3 times a week). she lost 10 lbs the first week, 5 lbs the second, then about 1-2 lbs a week after.

here's my Taco Bell diet (worked in college):

Items:
- 2 hard shelled tacos, extra lettuce, no cheese and no sour cream or anything else
- 1 large jug of iced tea, lemons OK, no sugar
- 1 pack of cigarette

Directions:
- Eat a high protein, no carb breakfast (eggs, ham, etc.) w/a large coffee but no creamer or sugar
- For lunch eat 2 regular tacos. space them out by eating one taco first (hot sauce OK), smoke a couple of cigs, drink lots of iced tea, wait for 8~10 minutes.
- Eat the second taco, and finish your iced tea with another cig. You should feel fairly full.
- For dinner eat light, and by that I mean eat fruits and raw vegies with no sauce/dressing. Eat them by 7pm and don't eat until 7am the next day.

You'll lose quite a bit of weight but not 42 pounds in 2 months...maybe half that and you'll still have energy.

i've dropped 32lbs in 3 months by eating egg whites and oatmeal in the morning, then just chicken with "mrs. dash" marinade/seasoning, and white rice, and also lots of tilapia fish. damn good stuff. and even when i didn't eat right, i didn't gain any weight bc my metabolism was so sped up! oh i also work out 3 times a week

Actually "obese" is a loose term tossed around a lot. For all you know he may be obese. He hasn't posted his height so you really cant tell if he is or not. And the fact that he wants to lose 42 some pounds is 2 months.... its not going to happen. He can safely come close which will then give enough motivation to keep it off, and eventually reach his goal.

I agree with interval training, and with strength training, both will help burn fat fast.

Good luck bud.
42lbs in 2 months is possible! I was around ~195lbs of bulk. Since I do a lot of body building. But after 8 weeks of exercise, 5 days a week and ate around 1000-1300 calories a day. Prior to that I was eating about 2200-2800 calories a day. By then end of the 8 weeks I had weighed in at about ~153lbs. I was pretty cut up and toned since I had plenty of muscle on me.

If you would like to keep the weight off after the diet is over you will need to ditch the idea of a diet and change your eating habits. Diets will help you lose weight quickly but once you get off the diet, i.e. when you achieve your weight loss goal, you will probably revert to your old eating habits you will put on weight again. I don't think you stated why your time frame was only two months, but if you can extend your time frame and change your eating habits, which will help you keep the weight off for good. Of course, exercise is required (weight training, interval training and cardio). When you weight train along with cardio you body will burn more fat when your not working out than if you just did cardio.
