I used to pay a service to keep it manicured like the 18th green but I started to miss the relaxing work. I have about 1/2 acre of grass and I use a Honda Harmony II walk-behind, Stihl Homescaper weedwacker, B&D EdgeHog edger. I suppose if I had more yard I'd go with a riding mower. I'd be constantly crankin the wheel! I find yard work to be good for the nerves.

I used to pay them to spray the chemical s too but I have buddy who works a farm feed & fertilizer distributor who hooks me up for almost nothing. Then I just use the scott's spreader and save myself 800 bucks a yr.
I had telemarketers from the companies that sell yard chemicals call and I would ask what do they have to stop the grass from growing. I know a few years ago they were trying to create a grass using tundra grass and a southern species to engineer a grass that only grows 3" in a season. If they ever perfect it I want it. I have all the dandelions in the neighborhood I think, and I let them go to seed. Like I said before I'm not into lawn care, if my grass dies and leaves holes, well that's life, and it always seems to come back. I never water either, if it wants to grow in my yard, it better be hardy, and that includes flowers and other plants.

I used to have a lawn service do the yard but they just didn't take the time to do things right. Now I have a full compliment of Troy Bilt yard implements including a Pony tractor and chipper-shredder. My next project is building a yard implement storage building.
