Yes, kids are a lot of work if you do it right.
Words of wisdom from someone who's been there multiple times, start the training early. It is easier when they are young than if you have to do the training when they are older. Teenagers are next to impossible to train.
It is easier to train a puppy than an older dog.
Set the boundaries and stick with them - within reason. They'll always try to go outside the boundaries you set so you just set your boundaries just a little inside of where you want them to be after they buck your authority. Then both of you are happy.

My parents own a few stores throughout the less desirable sections in the 5 boroughs of New York City and I've worked weekends every now and then to help out.

my favorite are the pan-handlers at hwy offramps. the other day was sitting on the offramp waiting for the lite to turn, sitting there top down. then this pan-handler strolls up to my car and asks for some spare change. i told him no, and he proceded to cuss me out for having a "race car" and not giving him any money.
i told him to get a ****ing job and stop being a waste of human life. probably shoulda just ignored him, but i was having a bad day.
