to make an insurance claim or not
Yep, you had a little incident involved your car only, back end slipped going around a turn and you went off the road slightly causing some damage to your car on a fence/fencepost. There was no damage to anything except your car. You likely want to file a police report first and just indicate that you waited because you weren't sure of the cost to repair and the car was driveable so you got an estimate first. I think it will lend merit to your case with your insurance company when you can tell them you filed it properly so they don't think there's anything fishy like you hit and ran.
I would stress that you did nothing wrong, just unfortunate conditions. Don't volunteer that your tires needed to be replaced or that any speed was involved because most policies have clauses that indicate they do not have to cover anything if the laws of the road are not followed. Also, you don't want them arguing that you should've replaced the tires and therefore it's your fault.
Just keep your cool about it and factually tell them there's damage and that you received an estimate already. They may wish to send an adjuster and you can provide your estimate that you received already. There's nothing wrong with the fact that you wanted to determine cost before making a claim. It's your right to make a claim or not. They might prefer you disclose any accidents but they don't have a right to know if you don't want to make a claim.

well, made the claim,....just shopping around at different body shops now seeing what they are gonna do compared to each other.
found one that wants to replace my wheel cuz of some scratches, which is cool since it was curbed previously, or i can take the money for the wheel(500-ish) and pocket it and put it towards the deductible....
now i am considering other options (painting the whole car) due to the fact its gonna be in the shop anyways, and i was gonna get my front bumper re painted anyways,....
also considering getting my fenders pulled and rolled for some wide rims in the future.

Sounds like it's going in the right direction and you're going to spin it into a positive. I usually try to do that so when you get your car back it's not like you're where you were, but excited about it being better than how it was.
no problems making the claim, i just went to the agent and said "well,..i had a little accident,...." and i just told them how i was the only one involved which i was, and they gave me the list of body shops. pretty easy,......and my insurance only goes up 11 dollars a month
