That guy must be loving the roll bars right now.
I've always wondered why they never had any. Did Mazda figure no one would ever flip one?

Several years ago I tossed my Miata way up on two wheels after I lost it at 95+ mph and left the track. Before the next high speed or low speed event I mounted a 5pt. Solo I legal roll bar with added cross bracing in the car. When the car was rear-ended and totaled the bar actually helped protect me from the "damaged" area of the car.

I would love to have a better roll bar in the S2K but I don't want to cut it up and hurt the resale value.

Good thing he had that rollbar. Without it, he would've been crushed.

Isn't the S2K's front windshield designed to support the weight of the car???

I can't imagine that it would while the car is moving. Think of the forces at work during a roll. I saw somewhere a s2K w/rollbar, and i fell in love with it. I love my bar, hope i never have to use it, and hate it when people walk up to my car and tug on it to feel how sturdy it is.

There were a lot of pictures from Japan of S2K's with rollbars. Maybe that's where you saw it.

I think I still read somewhere that the front windshield in the S2K was designed as a rollbar. Can't remember where. That's one of the reasons the back ones on our cars are such a joke.

FWIW, the Miata's windshield frame is designed to hold up to a roll over as well... so much for that idea..
