as for your boycottig the members of the RIAA by not purchasing their CDs, remember the members of the RIAA are corporations, meaning you are not targeting any specific individual, but a large group of shareholders which may include your friends and family.

It's a gray topic... sharing someone's song so millions of people can copy it for free is stealing. Sharing you computer harddrive so thousands of hackers can get to your computer is stupid.
I don't think legal action is going to make a dent. Eventually the RIAA needs to find a way to serve this market and still make money. The music sharing model gives millions of people access to entertainment they would never have been able to get to.
Billy- Vinyl to Tape to CD's I agree 100%. The recording industry has gotten better and better at contracting royalties up front. The greedy mo-fo's just keep getting better and better at driving the cost to teh consumers up. The whole entertainment industry is like that. Why do I have to pay $60 to see a baseball game?
The RIAA's been collecting royalties on blank audio CD-R's on behalf of the artists. The process an individual artist has to go through to get paid pretty much guarantees that the RIAA doesn't have to pay out a dime.
