Mpaster and CD sales
Speaking about Napster, they had an interesting article in the paper yesterday about Napster. Currently, CD sales are way off from last year's pace. Some people in the Napster camp attribute this to the shutdown of Napster. They said that Napster actually spurred sales of CDs by allowing user to sample songs before they went out and bought the CD. The music industry is saying that it's just a slow year, compared to last year.

Maybe the general music-buying public are more music savvy than the American music industry imagines.
I've already accumulated about 400 CDs, and downloaded almost 700 titles through Napster. My collection also contains virtually every one of my favorites which were previously on vinyl and tape. With that amount of music, I've got just about every piece of music that I ever want to collect. I just don't need any more CDs - and I certainly doubt that I'll ever need to rush out and buy another CD - however good the artist is.
I've also got 50 music channels on DishNetwork, and all the music I can handle on Live365.com, so I hope the record industry executives aren't waiting for me to keep paying out $18.95 for mediocre CDs. I'm just about music-ed out!
Another factor (as far as I'm concerned) is that the quality of music today is absolute crap. Every generation has had it's own "theme" - Rock 'n Roll, Tamla Motown, Disco - to name just a few of the better known ones. However, after killing off Disco, the industry lost all sense of direction. The only notable "theme" they have come up with since Disco is (********) rap! And the general masses have really taken to that, haven't they? (Anyone want to listen to a monkey sing?
) Britain and Europe have had the best music for more than a decade (mostly Euro Beat, Trance, House
