Cell phones are banned when operating a motor vehicle. they just past this law you have to use a hands free device if your going to talk on the phone and drive.

I want smoking in the car outlawed, and eating french fries, and drinking Starbucks. These are equally as dangerous as using the phone, and are usually done in conjunction with using the phone.
Just freakin' drive people!!! This is the most dangerous thing any of us do, pay attention. My baby got hit by some stupid bitch who couldn't stay in her lane b/c she was 99% involved in her phone conversation and about 1% involved in driving. Argh!!!!

We don't have them outlawed while driving but a bill that is moving in our legislature, and will almost definately become law make any fine double if you are one the phone.
Talking on the phone and speeding? That will come close to $300 fine.
Either type of law are ok with me. I don't own a phone, nor do I want one. Never wanted to call someone while driving, never wanted to take a call while driving. Call me crazy.
I also don't think either law would be necessary if poeple who used them were considerate (in the majority) of others around them. Sure, some individuals talk while in the right lane, or pull over, keep calls short, and pay attention, but it only takes five minutes of driving to find some goober plugging up the left lane, going slow, weaving in the lane, and many times making wild gestures while talking, even though the person they are talking to would have no way of seeing the gestures. (I never understood why people do that, who are you waving your arms at?)
If it were not for the goobers, the laws would not be necessary.
By the way, it is not as if the law propsed here would be unpopular. The poll of 1000 trandom residents done by the news station should OVER 75% in favor of the law. Since I am one of the very few who do not own a phone, I think a mojority of the phone owners and users feel that some of the phone behavior on the road has gone way overboard.

Funny thing... that law went into effect on Monday I believe. Just last night I pulled up next to some chick gabbing on her cell phone while at a stop light--keep in mind it was RED--and then, from a dead stop, she just blows right through the light like it had turned green. The guy behind her almost ran it also then realized it was red..
Just f'ing unbelievable. I agree that in most cases, holding the phone to your head vs. being hands-free doesn't make a difference... but in this case, I don't think she would have blown the red light had she been hands free.
