off to a bad start while dogsitting
Kirk, I am so sorry to hear about Simon. Dogs are such special animals. As I type this, my German Shepherd Natasha is laying beside me. She is almost 10 now. I don't know what I will do if and when I lose her. You've done everything you can to ease the loss for your Cousin. Waiting till he gets home is a good idea. There is nothing they can do at this point.

That is rough. I know you feel guilty about it even though it was simply bad luck that it happened on your watch. Sorry.
Sort of reminds me of a story my father-in-law told me a few years back. He and his family had just moved to a new neighborhood and hadn't even settled in yet when my sis-in-law managed to get in trouble.
It seems she wandered over to the neighbor's (total strangers at this point) house and somehow got into the garage. Once there, she discovered a little puppy and decided to make the pup a bed in the washing machine. You guessed it, she drowned the poor thing. She was only about five at the time and didn't know what she was doing. When the pup didn't show any signs of life, she ran home to tell her daddy about it.
He was shocked to discover the pup's body in the washer, and later on had to introduce himself to his new neighbors as the father of the little girl that drowned their puppy. What a way to come into a new neighborhood!

Kirk,
Sorry to hear of your ordeal, I didn't know about it until it was referenced in the HH thread. Try not to stress too much over things you can't control, and I hope your cousin takes it well.

My cousin and his wife got back tonight and I picked them up at the airport and told them what happened. They were very thankful that I handled it all and agreed that it was best to wait until they got back to tell them.
I picked up Simon's ashes today and put his urn on their mantle. I have not yet heard back from the pathologist as to what caused the anaphylactic shock but we are all very interested to know obviously, so I will update this one last time when I find out.
