Default Is it possible

is it possible to have so much grip, and a bulletproof clutch and tranny, that the rims themselves will actually spin inside the tires. Reason I ask, I thought I saw this watching IRT: Deadliest Roads last night when Lisa was trying to get out of a hole and I might have just been hallucinating.

its quite possible.... thats why you see most drag cars with riveted rubber to the wheels

here is some burnouts and stuff at 1000 frames per second

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/761271/high_...ng_tires_start/

when they talk about tire wadding they are talking about the "wheel" of the car spinning faster than the outer surface of the tire.

I have done it on my Camaro. Really didnt take that much to do it. Off the nitrous the car was running mid 12's at the time and the tires I was using were M/T Sportsman Pro's. I had the tire move a whole inch around the rim after one night of racing. I bolted them on after that.

so it's confirmed it will do it under heavy acceleration...but can we confirm or deny this can happen under heavy braking?

I cannot confirm nor deny that information. I also disavow all knowledge of this discussion.

Communication terminated.

You can stop faster than you can accelerate, so of course you can.

Gotta remember though, a lot of those drag guys do drop pressure in their tires to get it more pliable - that'll lead to some "give"

IIRC, some guys on autoX courses claim their tire rotates on the rim..

From what I understand, if you index the tire to the wheel with some paint on each, you'll see the tire rotate on the rim over time. Not a lot, but it'll move.

I've seen one segment of that show, those trucks are using two piece (old style) wheels. I wouldn't doubt they slip.
