The PS2 is a really crappy DVD player. Won't play some of the newer DVD's (heard they have a patch to fix that now but don't know) and the DVD's they do play it does such a crappy job uncompressing and reading it that it's not worth it. Leave the PS2 for GT3 A-Spec and Grand Theft Auto 3. Spend the extra $$$ and get a decent progressive scan player. The X-Box's DVD is pretty decent, not as good as a stand-alone player but light years better than the PS2 player. Of course this is all just my opinion though.

 

The DVD player on the PS2 is ok if you are just playing it through your TV speakers. But if you plan on building a home theater stay CLEAR away from the ps2. The ps2 does not decompress the full spectum of sound, leaving a lot on the bottom and even more up top cut off. I don't have the specs, but I remember reading a comparison where the ps2 came up REALLY short compared to the other "cheap" ($~150) dvd players.

 

i have a PS2 and i have an XBox at work.......i prefer the PS2, just for the reason that you can pull it from the box and utilize every option available rather than buying a certain peice to play DVD's such as the XBox!! besides PS2 has Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto!!
