yeah on my way back to taipei from beijing earlier this year, someone stole all my metallica bootleg dvds i bought (~4) out of my checked luggage, but left all the movie ones (~10). i've yet to figure out yet if it was because the guy was a metallica fan or if it was because it's "more illegal" to buy metallica bootlegs. really wanted those ones too.

Would many locks discourage them from breaking into the luggage?

They'll cut the locks. They specifically say when you go out of country to take off any locks as random luggage is hand searched.

The more locks on you luggage the more suspicious you look.

I've traveled with 3 laptops, 1 carry on and 2 luggage with nor problems. Personal, work, and my sisters laptop that was getting fixed.

Nope, the TSA will cut all of your non TSA locks off your luggage, so they can rifle through looking for illegal items...you are basically at their mercy.

So if they stole my laptops, DSLRs, and other expensive electronics from my suitcases, I'd be SOL? I should take pictures of those items when placed in the suitcases as a backup assurance?
