Hire a local lawyer and let them deal with it. You don't want to commute to a random court house, then deal with a DA who doesn't know you. Personally, I say never cop to any speeding offense - you're always innocent and let the lawyer try and get it changed/reduced/tossed.

No shit? I thought a radar ticket was much worse.

My experience in VA is that they always knock them down for out-of-staters as long as you weren't doing anything reckless. They just want your money, not your time coming to court. Last time I got one the cop said to me "I know you live far away so I knocked your speed down. So do me a favor and just pay it". Wanted to slap him.

Thanks. I am more concerned about an increase in insurance than anything else. If I could just keep it away from my insurance that would be great.

That's why you hire a lawyer. You may have to take an online course before or after your court date. Your lawyer will know best.

Like 15 mph over in Switzerland while doing European Delivery. It was a speed camera, $700 USD, I paid it. Didn't need that karma hanging over my head.

That BMW was trouble with a capital T. Sold it, bought a truck to haul my trailer and S2000 to the track where I can speed all day long.

You needed this:

Unless they confiscate a $3-400 detector.

Can't confiscate the detector. Maybe in the past, but not now. Can insist it be stored in the trunk but that's about it. DC may be different but VA law does not permit confiscation. And there are undetectable detectors (at least one anyway). All three of my Valentine 1 detectors went on Ebay when I moved last fall. Miss 'em!
