Strippers
Psicho54,
Yeah, the valley seems to be full of middle-aged people with families and other things that seem to make them less interested in socializing. I can honestly say, after almost two months, I don't know a single person who lives in my apartment complex. I moved here from Virginia (specifically from Virginia Tech), where apartment-block parties are a constant feature of life, and you're a hermit if you don't know everyone in your building in a week or so. Maybe what I'm looking for is just a younger crowd than those who live in the valley.
I've only made two good friends here in the two months I've lived here -- one of which is a guy who isn't very much into going out (he's an awesome guitarist, but he's afraid of cities), and another is a girl I have to hide from my girlfriend (because she'd be upset with me if she knew I actually SPOKE to other females).
And for the record, women don't really intimidate me -- but strippers do.
I haven't actually been worried about my behavior around a woman in years. I suppose the best action is to just treat the stripper like any other woman with any other job. She'd probably appreciate that, anyway.
I've heard SoCal is a totally different place, but I haven't ventured down there yet. I'm a little intimidated by Ventura Beach and all the extremely fit people trying to impress all of the other extremely fit people. I'm in shape, but I'm no bodybuilder. I sorta think of SoCal the same way I think of Miami -- all flash and image.
So I think when my lease expires next August, if I'm not already married to my crazy girlfriend, I'll move up a little closer to the city. After all, you're only free and 22 once in your life!
