Taking risks...
yeah, but the OP is talking about leaving his comfort zone, not actually risking his life or risking his financial security. i agree with oldman...no regrets! i have no idea who said it, but a great quote: "plan for tomorrow, but live for today!"
I think that I am in agreement with some posters, what is yur financial situation? Like are you in debt and such? If you are somewhat fiancialy ok that you could travel it would be great. Try out some new places and people and experiences, maybe you have friends or family that you could stay with for a while or work something out so that you can have those experiences. I remember a ouple o months back I was watching Miami Ink and a guy went in to get a tattoo and he was talking with one of the guys, basically he said that by choice in his younger years he was homeless (really risky if you ask me) but this helped him in essence find himself.
life is full of regrets... remember it well. that's what is meant by learning from your mistakes... my advice is for you to make smart decisions.
always ask yourself these questions:
do you need it?
can you afford it?
simple. more emphasis on the 2nd one.

I agree with a lot of the people above....no regrets. But at the same time I'm a firm believer in not everyone is made for the same risks. It all just depends on who you are. You seem to be very level headed...bright and responsible and all that. That's just who you are and that's not a bad thing at all. Your definition of risk is different than mine and that's just the way it is....again, that's not a bad thing at all. If you feel like you're not living life to the fullest, then start with something simple, but something that you wouldn't normally do. Take a month or two and backpack through Europe, or learn something that is totally out of your realm of experience like SCUBA or skydiving. Being who you are, and just pushing the limits a little is a good, and usually safe, way to learn about who you could be.
I teach courses in project risk management, and I always start each course by going round the room and asking each student to tell everyone what was the riskiest thing they'd ever done; then I amend that to the riskiest thing they'd ever done that they don't mind everyone else in the room knowing.

Get out there, and out of the sticks...
Do a 4 year bid in the services, see as many places as you can with them get an idea of what you want to do and relocate to a major city with a population of more than 500,000 (or at least be within 20 miles of such a city). Then try and retire in Hawaii.
