hmm...not really sure where i called anyone any names, let me go back and re-read it...

i did say you mis-represented my post. which you did. i also said you spouted a bunch of crap that's been spouted plenty of times before and will continue to be spouted in the future. which you did. if you don't like tiger for all of those reasons, that's fine. i seriously doubt all of your sporting heroes are as perfect as you seem to want tiger to be though.

i don't feel threatened, no. but yeah i think it's a little absurd for everyone to hate tiger like they do, as if all other professional athletes are saints. let me guess, you've never been a barry bonds fan, a roger clemens fan, a fan of any professional football player, etc. i'm not saying all the things you said aren't true; just that you could draw up a list at least that long of any other professional athlete, most would have longer lists.

i still am not sure i completely understand this argument though

anyway, i guess i choose to appreciate what tiger can do in spite of him being human. keep in mind, he doesn't control the course lengths, or the camera angles.

we'll agree to disagree. deal?
"Murderers of small children detest me also, I must be anti-evil...
I would hate to run into myself cause I anti-matter..."

It was a sorry ass attempt at humour. You know, on Star Trek if a person came in contact with his anti self... anti-matter...big explosion. Lol I once read if you have to explain your joke it wasn't funny

My2ks2k, I guess what I hate about all the Tiger bullshit and hype is how it has, in my opinion destroyed much of the traditions of the game. For instance, forever when they showed a leader board, if two or more players were tied then the player who had played the most holes was considered the leader.NOT NOWWWWWW....If Tiger is on the first hole at 4 under and there are six other players at 4 under and one of them is on the 18th then NOW Tiger is the leader. And IMHO he should and could say "WHOA! In our great game, which has allowed me to become a millionaire 800 times over, the scoring has always been the leader is the player who has played the most holes. So just like when my hero Jack played and all the other greats before him, I think you should continue on with that fine and honest tradition." Now you probably will say "Bullshit! Why should he!" Well I see it as a slight and a changing of the grand traditions. And I am fairly certain that Jack or Arnold would have spoken up by now...times they have a changed and not always for the better....

Well I guess my only answer would be that it is likely that someday, as equipment progresses and the game changes, someone new will come along and will have as poor a group of competitors as Tiger presently has and he will be as dominant or moreso than Tiger and then you and y2ks2k will be sitting back saying the same things that I am.

We all love our Hero's.....

I was at the Open on Friday and was front and center for his eagle on 13 (I even made Sportscenter!). He certainly has a presence and even though I'm not a huge fan of his, I still went wild when he dropped his putt. I appreciate greatness at any sport and I have a new appreciation for him, as he seemed gracious and even a little shy at his ability. His caddie, on the other hand, is a real douchebag and I can't stand him immensely.

Also, I just got a call from my brother who got us a tee time at Torrey Pines South tomorrow. If I so much as make par on a hole, I'll do the double fist pump and scream wildly. As I hit a shot into a canyon, I'll throw my club and curse, just to get the full Tiger experience.

i knew what you were trying to say; you just said it wrong

anyway, my apologies if i came off defensive. your first post after mine seemed like you were accusing me of all the things you listed, which isn't the case.

in any case, no one has to love or hate tiger. i don't really think it's right to hate him because of how much attention he gets, but if someone chooses to do so, that's their decision.

tiger is by no means the longest driver on tour (T-29), or even close to the most accurate (T-154). that much is certain. the stats lists he tops? scoring average, greens in regulation, scrambling, overall ranking, and money. he wins on long courses; he also wins on tight courses.

one other thing to keep in mind: he's been playing golf for how long? and how long has this "technology advantage" been around? how long has he been winning? don't all the other tour players have access to this same technology?

we can be friends though, i suppose. just don't start bashing asian girls, john mayer, or my carolina panthers.

You lucky son of a bitch! Torrey Pines 3 days after the Open! ARRRRRGGGGG!!

I appreciate greatness too and have marvelled more than a couple of times at shots he has hit. I believe unfortunately, most of what we know or learn of him is so media driven...
I followed him a couple of holes at the last Ryder Cup. He has a presence but to me no different than anyone else who I have met who was famous. I mean, you are naturally curious so...
And I will also admit that I find him a hell of a lot more level headed than I could ever be given his level of exposure and the adulation. See I never said I hated him...how could I? I don't know him...lol

NO.

Jack never had access to graphite shafts during his career. He also played with wound balls. The greens weren't as well cut nor were the fairways or rough as consistent in length. The PGA also never lengthened courses for him.

Tiger plays like crap on tight courses. He always has. He only plays the same tournies year after year and those are the ones which suit his game best. Can't blame him but...Tiger sucks on tight courses and the stats you listed as his weaknesses bear that out.

According to espn.com, Tiger won $1.35 million for winning, and Rocco won $810K for finishing second. In case anyone was wondering.

@benny: They opened the course a day early, so that's how he got the tee time. It's like winning the golf lottery if you get through apparently. I've played the North course twice before but never the South, so I'm incredibly excited. I've lived a charmed existence since moving to SoCal.
