CA sucks for not allowing ANY front-side tint. It really should be some % transmission limit, just for traffic-stop officer safety.

Its cause the cops out here are pu$$ys and scared about what could be behind the window they cant see

Actually, I had one racist cop tell me "Its so we can tell the Ni***rs from the whites"

I highly doubt that's why they really have it

Theres absolutely no way hes going to get a ticket for window tint if hes driving from Dallas TX to NYC and crosses through IL.
it happened to a missouri resident on a local forum before missouri banned it too ( i think thats what happened) he had to travel all the way back over for court

If I take my TX legal but CA illegal S2000 to California, can/will they confiscate and crush it?

any of these scenarios seems very fightable..

Personally, i would take the ticket from the state and either
A) fight it, and probably win
or
B) just take the ticket, throw it out the window and never visit that state again..

To the OP
It sounded like the officer was giving you options to give your license back, that only helped him, he wanted you to pay him, or basically admit guilt, but not actually go through the judicial system?

go to court and pay the ticket, I would have said, fine ill go to court, but then fight it, and bring up that he tried to take your license, and accept a form of payment, which i highly doubt is legal, and is probably considered a bribe. You could go to town on that cop, and if the judge isnt crooked either, probably get him fired or in a whole lot of trouble

i honestly think in CA you should be able to have any percentage of tint

the rule should be if you are pulled over you have to roll down your windows to allow them to see into the car.

at least that makes sense to me

Ill is sure differant! Here in NY you get your license back and can't pay fines "on the spot".

I can only imagine how scary it can be for an officer alone either in daylight or at night coming up to a car to which he can't see into even with his spot light pointing into the vehicle. Factory tint isn't strong enough to block all of a spot light out, im totally fine with that. Even though 99.9% of traffic stops are probably uneventful, if you can't see inside a car you don't have a single clue what is waiting behind that window. That .1% could be disasterous.
I understand that on DARK tint, but NO tint is different, and to call it a moving violation is just wrong.

Doesn't anyone use Google any more?

http://www.tintlaws.com

Illinois isn't as lenient about tint as most states, agreed. Are some of the rules a bit much? Sure... But whatever, they have their reasons, however lame they might be.

As for cash on the spot being shady, the officer actually takes your license as bond. If you want to contest the ticket, no sweat, you can do that and get your license back at your court date. If you cough up cash on the spot to the officer, you're basically just paying the fine for the ticket in advance. If you choose to contest the ticket and win, you'll get your money back.

Relax. It's not the end of the universe.
