Now this is truly the first offensive post to date on this thread. I also find those stats highly dubious. Many people who are agnostic or atheist will not admit it in public for fear of backlash. Atheists are vilified as anarchistic and evil anti-religionists, who want nothing more than to rob other people of their right to practice their beliefs. Only a small portion of atheists are open about their atheism, and as a result we are viewed as a much smaller percentage of the population than we really are.

that way we get everyone covered.
LOL!

Gary, just trying to lighten up the conversation a bit, i know they're all god(s), but we usually use capitalized "God" denoting the Christian deity, and lower case "god" for others. my point is that there are plenty of money donating monks (to Al Gore no less, LOL) and other lobby groups that the likelihood of us adding all kinds of stuff to cover everyone is a possibility (however remote)

Religion can be a wonderful tool, but it can be a horrible thing as well.

I agree with TrojanHorse, there are many people that do not believe in the Christian "God" (whichever name it is given), or any "God" at all, but those people don't go knockin' on your door tellin' you about it (Atheist's Witness ).

When I watched the the movie "Contact" (which I adored other than the religious overtones) and I hear that line in there about however many people believe in some sort of God I about lost it. Bull$hit.

The world is confused, people are brought up to believe the way their parents want them to and then they find out that people all over the world have different religions and they get confused. Many people believe in "a" God, but not one specific. Why? Simple, they were brought up that way but are now confused by the choices they didn't know they had. Why don't they just drop religion altogether? Simple, they've grown an un-natural affinity towards faith. I say un-natural affinity because IT WASN'T THERE TO BEGIN WITH, IT WAS PLANTED THERE.

Fine, plant what you want, do what you will with your children, but keep all that stuff out of everything LEGAL or PUBLIC.

Did you guys ever hear of the old religious Blue Laws? Do a search, I can still sell my wife for cattle.

What pure bull$hit.

More of my .02...lol

I think this statement right here is why no one understands why some of us feel that it should be removed. What is a pledge anyway???

a binding promise or agreement to do or forbearb (1) : a promise to join a fraternity, sorority, or secret society (2) : a person who has so promised

I personally don't think it's a good thing to be stating a pledge just cause it's by rote. You are making a promise here. If I can just leave out what I want in any pledge, why can't I just not do other things, like not pay my bills each month. Yeah, I signed that contract, but I can ignore a word or two. Hell, I didn't even really believe it when I signed it anyway.

I for one don't like making promises/pledges that I don't support and don't believe in. Is everyone losing their integrity?
