This will be a very difficult case to rule on, it has major ramifications either way. Let's say that it is kept in the pledge, that could be seen as a sign of the government reinforcing a belief in religion; an encroachment on the rights of private citizens to observe or to not observe a religion. It has the chance to set a precedent that could be used against other personal freedoms in the future.
If it is taken out, many will appreciate the government's separation from private life, but others (ahem, bible belt) will throw a fit. Not to mention the issue of our currency and coins that bear a similar phrase, undoubtedly which would need to be changed and at great expense. Think of the extremists that are attacking us, right now we are evil but still show a belief in the same Supreme Being. Ruling to remove the phrase might throw us in as nonbelievers (full fledged infidels) and could fuel the fury against us.

I predict no politician will take this one on. Democrats and Republicans will be praying, pledging, and proclaiming the name of God in public until this storm is over. They know that less than 2% of voters are professed atheists. There's no elections to be won here!

pixsurguy is a real attorney josh, i can assure you of that

there are plenty of buddhists and taoists out there, why can't they have a voice too? perhaps we should have:

"one nation, under God, Allah, Buddha, and whatever deity you believe or do not believe in..."

that way we get everyone covered.

In short, they won't take it out because the USA is still supposedly a Christian nation. Sure, everyone is free to believe what they want but the vast majority of the people (the voters) are Christian and that's what is going to determine it. Unconstitutional or not, it's not going to change...

I am sick and tired of the minority controling the majority in this country.

86% of the people here do believe this country is under GOD.

The other 14% can cough or perhaps just not say anything at the appropriate time.
