there are plenty of buddhists and taoists out there, why can't they have a voice too? perhaps we should have:

"one nation, under God, Allah, Buddha, and whatever deity you believe or do not believe in..."

that way we get everyone covered.
Saying Allah and Buddha would be redundant - they are names for their God, as YHWH is the name for Jews, etc. "One nation, under God" would include every religion that I am aware of.

"Help! Help! I'm being repressed!!!"

IMHO, I don't think the minority / majority thing holds any water. It sounds an awful lot like "why can't those African-American / Jews / Caucasians / Asians / Fill-in-any-other-group just act like us?" Everyone is a minority somewhere. Does that mean that we have to change our beliefs to be just like the majority, or should the majority learn to be tolerant and not try to "fix" everyone?

Ok - this is for anyone, but if believing in God is a personal thing - and I think most all religious people believe this - then why does it need to be pushed on everyone else - shoved in everyone's face?

If you believe in God and nothing is going to change that - it's all about individual faith - then why do you care if it's in our pledges / oaths / currency? Would it change your beliefs if it wasn't?

I don't know why, but this quote really angers me. I can't find an arguement that could make

you see it differently without the religious context but I hope someone else will try for me. Also,

please give me other instances where the minority is controlling the majority. I can't seem to

think of any instances and I would love to hear what you have.

Thanks,
Phi

Quotas - how many of which race are accepted into a university and which ones receive favor based only upon their race.

Vouchers - credits given to persons who choose to take their children out of a public school and put them into a private school.

In both of the above the majority is denied. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just that it's an example of minority rule.

Wait a minute - when the majority tries to get its religious beliefs incorporated into the laws of a country, and the minority finally says 'enough!', how is that the minority controling the majority?

This thread is really starting to scare me. Looks like our country is spiraling downward faster than I thought.

In this instance, I would have to disagree with your definition of minority rule. I think it increases the acceptance rate for minorities over other potentially more qualified candidtates, but I don't see how it puts them in a position to make decisions that affect all of the majority. Maybe a very small percentage.

...the originally comment stated that the minority was controlling the majority.
I don't see that in the example of quotas or vouchers.
