Um.. what? Have you watched the olympics?
8 races that Bolt could legitimately run...
100 metres
200 metres
400 metres
800 metres
110 metre hurdles
400 metre hurdles
4 x 100 metres relay

Also with the amount of foot speed he has I'd bet any decent coach could make him a hell of a long jumpers also
Not even close. Football's quickest guys are WAY off the pace of a guy like Usain Bolt. Throw a few people in front of him and they'd probably slow him a bit but really, in an honest-to-goodness race down the sidelines, he'd leave them all for dead.
I'm talking ten or fifteen yards, at least, if they ran the length of the field.

He is insane, no question. I'm not old enough to say he's the most dominant there has ever been. Some sports are quite as dramatic and short sprints. How much do you need to win a marathon by to be considered dominant? I don't know.
I think drawing absolute comparisons between sports is unfair and not very useful. It is safe to say that he is super human. Anyone who can run a <10s 100m in a 200m race is a freak of nature and what's amazing is how calmly and easily he boot stomps the #2 and beyond. He's got so much more to give I just hope he doesn't save it for too long and never reach his true potential because of injury or whatever. I always feel both amazed at what he does and disappointed that he phoned it in and didn't let me see the whole package. If he doesn't step up and show us what he's got I fear we will never know what he is truly capable of and that is a loss to all human-kind.

umm.. throw him on a football field and ray lewis will eat him alive.
I am with the OP, Bolt is absolutely insane. At the olympics he was literally coasting before the finish line. Phelps took that one race by a fingertip. And did we ever actually get a decent video shot of that controversial win?
I am still more impressed by Phelps overall, but I think Bolt
ther sprinters > Phelps
ther swimmers.

It's a tough comparo because you can't "launch" on a football field like you do on the track.
However, in Beijing, Bolt ran the 100m in 9.69s. Bolt's last 50m took him 4.19s so the first 50m took him 5.50s. However, he is timed with a "real" timer, not a stopwatch.
I got this on Yahoo:
So, per this moderate analysis, Bolt would run the 40 yard dash anywhere from 0.3 to 0.5s quicker than the quickest runners in the NFL.

All of the people who are saying that Usain Bolt would run under 4 seconds in the 40 yard dash are incorrect. You can't simply convert from meters to yards and divide by time. It doesn't work that way.
Sprinters start at a speed of 0 and generally accelerate for the first 50 meters and then start to slowly decelerate during the last 30-40 meters.
A more accurate way to estimate Bolt's 40 yard dash time would be to use the 60 meter dash world record as a bench mark. The 60m WR is 6.39 seconds by Maurice Green. Bolt really started pulling away from the field around the 40-50 meter mark, so I would guess Bolt's 60m split would be about 6.35 seconds.
This means that Bolt ran the last 40 meters in 3.34 seconds or 0.0835 seconds per meter. If we assume his speed over the last 40 meters was the same as his speed between 40 yards (36.576m) and 60 meters, than his 40 yard dash time would be......drumroll please.....4.394 seconds.
Surprised?
You really shouldn't be if you know anything about track and field. There is a 0.1 or 0.2 second reaction time between the sound of the gun and when the sprinters start running.
This same reaction time works the opposite way for 40 yard dash times because coaches start the stop watch on the movement of the runners. Therefore the stopwatch starts 0.1 - 0.2 seconds after the runner goes.
So this means that when you hear a player at the NFL combine ran the 40 yard dash in 4.30 seconds, if he were running on a track with a starting gun, he would really have run between 4.50 and 4.70.
Therefore if you account for the reaction times, if Usain Bolt were to run the same 4.394 second 40 yard dash at the NFL combine, they would likely clock him at somewhere between 4.00 and 4.20 seconds.

Regardless, Bolt is one fast man. If he got over himself and stopped the showboating during the final 20 meters, he could make records that won't be broken for 20 years.
