We Remember @S2ki
i was in geography class when the first one hit. i got out of class to go smoke a cigarette out back and saw the footage on the tv in the common area. i saw the 2nd one hit live and couldn't believe WTF was happening. it was like a freakin movie.....i'll never forget that day.....or the weeks following
I was sitting in a study during school (at the time I was a Junior in HS), someone said a plane had hit the towers, my first thought was "what kind of asshat runs into the towers, it's not like you can't see them." at the time I thought it was a personal small plane, so I thought nothing of it. The school didn't make any annoucements till the second plane hit, then they asked if anyone who had a family member that worked in the city if they could report to the office. At this point it was a WTF moment. It wasn't until after the towers fell that i got to see what happened on TV. It was such a surreal moment. It really struck me the next day when a few friends and I drove to see the city and there was just a giant cloud of smoke where the towers once stood. The skyline still doesn't look right to this day.
I was sitting at my desk when I my bf (at the time) called me and said if I had heard what just had happened. I said no, he told me what happened and I along with other people in my department ran upstairs to the lounge and saw it all happening. We saw the 2nd plane hit and fear and worry came over everyone. Most of our Buyers and Asst. Buyers were all on planes heading TO NYC and some already there for meetings with Vendors. So then the frantic calls and checking to make sure none of their planes were the ones that hit the WTC.
After we located everyone, the fun of finding rental cars to get them back home began.
Crazy Crazy day. I know i didn't feel safe working downtown next to the federal building and decided to go home instead.

I was in Spanish class. The school wouldn't let us disrupt class by watching the TV all day, so all teachers were told to turn off the TV. My Spanish teacher kept the TV on low volume while she gave her lesson.
I was walking between 2nd and 3rd period when my friend Antoine told me, he was a big practical joker so I told him I thought hew as joking as he unsuccessfully tried to convince us that "no Katie, we're under attack!" - needless to say when I got to class I found out he wasn't - we watched TV for the rest of the day and didn't get a damn thing accomplished at school.
I was on the ferry on my way to work next door to the wtc (1 liberty). Saw the explosion of the first plane and then the fire, but did not see the plane. As we were docking, some had began saying that a plane hit the north tower and I immediately thought of my friends at work. As I was walking toward work looking at the fire, I heard and felt the turbines of the second jet and in a blink, it was gone...
Someone asked what the mood in the city today is.. well, it's business as usual, but with the exception of heightened security next door at the waldorf (bush), and the addition of summer concerts by the nypd band at the rock and the marines on 6th. Last night the mood was much more somber as I had to go to two memorial services.
Spooky thing is that this morning here in nyc, the weather was just like it was 5 years ago. Crisp, a little cool and the sky is crystal clear which gave me goosebumps all up and down my back.
