why do we think the world is fair
fairness is all in your head.
if you are unhappy, just think about the guy starving in africa. if you are too happy, think about the people who are richer than you.
or if you are unhappy watch some bbc news. if you are too happy, watch some mtv cribs.
btw drhyppy, i am pretty sure fairness in your sense is not taught in the christian doctrine; unless you consider the chritians god's "love" and "blessings" to be tangible things.

i believe i answered that in my previous post. unhappiness or lack of happiness is = to the discrepancy between what we expect and what we get. if we accept that the world isn't fair and it isn't, then we have a better chance at being happy than vice versa.
quick summary:
"Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can, and
the wisdom to know the difference."
--Saint Francis of Assisi
I am a complete agnostic, but there are true pearls of wisdom to be found in organized religion
this is one of them and probably best fits what is being discussed here

dyhppy,
I have the perfect song for you. Randy Newman's The World Isn't Fair.
The World Isn't Fair
When Karl Marx was a boy
He took a hard look around
He saw people were starving all over the place
While others were painting the town (buh, buh, buh)
The public spirited boy
Became a public spirited man
So he worked very hard and he read everything
Until he came up with a plan
There'll be no exploitation
Of the worker or his kin
No discrimination 'cause the color of your skin
No more private property
It would not be allowed
No one could rise too high
No one could sink too low
Or go under completely like some we all know
If Marx were living today
He'd be rolling around in his grave
And if I had him here in my mansion on the hill
I'd tell him a story t'would give his old heart a chill
It's something that happened to me
I'd say, Karl I recently stumbled
Into a new family
With two little children in school
Where all little children should be
I went to the orientation
All the young mommies were there
Karl, you never have seen such a glorious sight
As these beautiful women arrayed for the night
Just like countesses, empresses, movie stars and queens
And they'd come there with men much like me
Froggish men, unpleasant to see
Were you to kiss one, Karl
Nary a prince would there be
Oh Karl the world isn't fair
It isn't and never will be
They tried out your plan
It brought misery instead
If you'd seen how they worked it
You'd be glad you were dead
Just like I'm glad I'm living in the land of the free
Where the rich just get richer
And the poor you don't ever have to see
It would depress us, Karl
Because we care
That the world still isn't fair

economic socialist models are so flawed in so many ways i dunno where to even begin.
sure they sound great in theory, but the application in real life is not so good to say the least.
socialist plans are executed poorly because they go against basic human instincts. how can you motivate a person or organization to improve and innovate when they know their revenue is guaranteed? kim jeon, stalin, and fidel have their methods.
