However, I don't think a lot of people are aware or educated enough about diamond to understand it. If you're an absolute purest while understanding all the aspect of it then it's all good. I would not spend $100k on a Porsche when I can get the same, exact or better for $5k, but most don't understand this due to the way it's being marketed and how society put value on it.

[QUOTE=PrimoGen,Oct 14 2008, 12:20 PM] The Plorsche analogy is pretty good but Porsche is not creating a market by withholding its supply nor is it creating false marketing and perpetuating its rarity through outright deceit.

Unlike diamonds there is a cornucopia of other cars to give you instant baller status if that is what you are looking for.

For women its a status thing and a branding thing. for them, if it is not a natural diamond that carries the price tag then why bother.

nevermind that lab rocks look just as good and are by very definition the exact same thing chemically. if it does not carry the stigma of the price tag then it is not wanted. I wish I had the power to create this same phenomenon with say... a toothpick to demonstrate how ludicrous this thought process actually is.

I bet many women, if you sat them down and fiscally explained all of this to them they would jump at chance to get a flashy ring AND afford something else more rewarding to the both of you.

I mean seriously...beyond the lucky girl to be, who would ever have to know whether the ring was real or fake. Let the world think what they want. It is just these panzy ass guys that wont make the clear and concise argument against diamonds for fear they will be looked upon as cheap. You dont have to be cheap, just spend the money on something more benficial or.....smart.

i have always said i would never buy a mined diamond. i have been scoffed at by friends and family who say i will never meet a girl who wont take a real (to them..and most girls....minded) diamond. i think they are absurd... i think its strange for people to put such a high value on something with so little worth

Fake boobs.

Fake Rolex.

Fake car parts.

Fake Chinese baby formula.

Fake diamonds.

Why stop there? Hey you can step up to the plate and write the check for the real thing or surround yourself with fake stuff so you can fool the great unwashed with your "toys".

By the way are you Chinese?

A question for those cheap ass bastards who won't buy the real thing, will you pass your fake diamond to your granddaughter as a heirloom? Maybe you can leave a note, "hey grandpa gave grandma a fake so they could spend a few extra days in Maui and grandpa could get the fake hardtop".

If you don't have the cash maybe you can't afford to get married, just a thought.

I would hope that I was a good enough parent/grandparent so that the child realized the meaning behind the ring over whether or not it was lab created/natural/ not a diamond.
