I have had this thought for the longest time and another good friend of mine brought it up in discussion.. he had the same idea.

We all grew up and learned that blue is blue, green is green, red is red, ect and so on. The thing is that we recognize colors by their associated name.

What if your purple is really my red? And my green is really your blue? But we all call them the same color because we grew up knowing that this color is called "green"

Maybe that explains why people have favorite colors?

Maybe I really see peoples skin as "red" but have always seen it that way so it is normal to me?
how long has this been on your mind? I thought about this when i was 6...but came to the conclusion that it didn't matter..if your blue is my red and thats what we both know it as, whats the difference what it really is.

heres a real brain teaser....

If one set of identical twins (female) married another set of identical twins(male) and both gave birth at the same time..lets say they both gave birth to males..when the kids grow up, will they look the same? meaning will they look like twins?

semantics. I think different variations in the visual specturm besides the primary and secondary colors are simply different shades, not new colors.

Primary colors yellow, blue, red
Secondary colors green, purple, orange.

Really all our colors are then shades of those colors.
I'm agreeing w/ you that a new color can't be created.

As you point out... its a semantic, how about this..
Finite set of colors w/ an infinite set of shades?

now we have to decide if a shade is its own color.

is spa yellow a color or a shade ?
is rio yellow a color or a shade?
suzuka and laguna?

sorry, even if twins were identical and then one did not form the male genetalia (ie. xy female) she would be sterile and unable to have children.

If you don't know what a color is called buy a basic box of crayons, they are all marked for you.
