UPDATE:

Test drove a MY04 sebring silver S this past weekend. really thinking about getting it. I checked most of the major mechanical stuff + cosmetic/internal parts. The only concern I have at this point in time is that from the front, the hood is slightly uneven with the passenger side slightly "lifted" from the rubber seal. It's probably 1 mm or so, but it was definitely an odd finding, as I found all of the VIN tags on the bumper/fenders/hood/etc. The vehicle also comes with a clean Carfax.

The car has a K&N FPIK intake installed, so I thought maybe that was pushing up against the hood; I also did a search and found that the hood latch, rubber stubs, and hood anchors could all be adjusted. Some of the pictures I saw in those threads looks similar to what I see on this car. IT seems adjustable to some degree. Is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks in advance for any input!! I really want to get back in an S...

ps, the guy showing me the car has owned it for 2+ years, and he almost freaked out when I showed him the "secret compartment"

If you want to bring it by my place, I can look it over for you.

Wow, sorry to hear about this accident.

That you walked away from such a serious crash causes me to admire the quality of this car, and confirms that I made a good choice in my purchase.

I know you've already decided, but I'd take the $$$$$ and run as well.

Was the other driver jailed? Drunk? You say he hit at least one other car before you and was uninsured?

UPDATE IN OP.

thanks for the offer

i ended up not getting that car, because i wasn't comfortable with it. i did however pick up my first AP2, so if you have any experiences with those, and would like to test drive mine to check it out, i would still take you up on your offer.

yes, i would say the combined speed upon impact was 50-60 MPH, and all i suffered was a bruised lower lip. the way this car absorbs frontal collision is very driver/passenger friendly. the integrity of the passenger cabin was only minimally compromised (driver door opens and closes with slight force).

the other driver was jailed according to the officer on site.
