trade s2000 for an sti???
The STi?
I like it. I think the wing is huge, but for the way the car looks overall...I think it blends in with the rest of the car. The whole car itself sticks out like anything. I love the STi in blue...
I wanted one for the winter, when Ruby hibernates, but I went cheap. Well, cheap-er
I got my milk truck instead. Huh? The milk truck you all ask? The Honda Element, of course
So now, Ruby has a BIG brother. Its versatile, and reliable...so far that is. All waterproof inside too, and its got no carpets inside!
But I'm thinking of getting a STi maybe next year. Maybe!

Russ, I saw you cruising around Claim Jumper in Redmond at noon on Saturday.
I wasn't a hot fast and furious babe so I suppose that's why you didn't see me waving. Errr... maybe because Beth was with ya?

Hey Russ,
So if you were to give a no BS assessment on what will go faster around the track (since I must be old, tubby, and loosing hair), which would be faster and by how many seconds given the same driver at say... PR:
Stock STi vs stock S2k (alignement changes allowed)
R compond STi vs R compound S2k
Both cars with $5000 in mods
It's time for me to start thinking about a new track car for next year. Right now it's looking like STi vs. EVO vs. S2000 vs...... ZO6. You opinion would be very much appreciated!

This is pretty easy. The answer is:
STi
STi
STi
I don't think I'm any better a driver than some of the S2k guys I've run with: Jerry, Ted and especially Ray. In the STi at Pacific Raceways, I managed to get the lowest lap times with both Street and Race tires. Ray was on street rubber and so was I for the last 1/2 of the day. Jerry was on race rubber... and of course, both were supercharged.
With $5k in mods, you could bump the STi up to 400HP, and add race quality coilovers that would also help by lowering the car.
I'm guessing the S2k handles a bit better than the STi, but the STi's better acceleration (especially out of corners) and higher speeds allows it to make up for any handling deficit. So on tracks like PR and SRP, the STi can excel. However, if it was an extremely tight track where handling was more of a benefit, the S2k might win. Not sure though, since the STi's drive out of corners is so great.
The Evo may even be slightly better, though on courses where acceleration is more important, the STi may still win.
Bottom line: the STi with it's good handling, AWD and incredible acceleration makes an intermediate driver like me look pretty good.
Enjoy your research!

Yeah, Russ, I was in my S2k with a small bunch of NSXes.
I also know a guy with a white STI who just got back from Topeka for the SCCA Solo Nationals. He had some interesting things to say about the class he was in and how it performed against the Vets and Evos.
Ultimately, he thinks the Evos and STI's will be lowered a class. But the AWD cars beat the pants off the vets when it was wet out. Ah, the beauty of AWD!
