Default paint over cheap plastic chrome?

Hello S2Ki, I just got a cheap set of smoked side markers off of ebay. The lens looks very nice but I don't like the chrome trim. I was going to mask off the lens and spray the trim with some black primer and matte black paint. Do you guys think that will hold? Or will it just peel off and look like crap?

Thanks!

Jeff

Tape off the lense, sand the parts you want to paint really good with 600 grit sandpaper. If it has any smaller scratches in it after you are done, sand again with 1000 grit and it should be really smooth. Then just keep the tape on them, and spray the parts you want whatever color. Let it dry for at least 20 minutes and peel the tape off. Done!

+1

Sanding it will make the paint stick/grip much better and you shouldn't have any problems with peeling/chipping paint.

Are they generic? Can't you just use the new smoke lens with the OEM bases?

I did think about that, but the lens seems pretty attached to the base. I pushed on it a bit but I was afraid the lens would break if I tried any harder. I couldn't really see how they were attached but I imagine they are glued together. And, I managed to break the clip on one of the oem markers when I removed it. I hardly pushed on it and it snapped. The other side was fine!
