Advice on lower control arm bushing replacement
Does anyone have some previous experience with replacing the front lower bushings? (not the compliance bushing) I could use some tips here.
I seem to have hit a snag with finding a place to support the arm in the press for removing the old bushing. The problem seems to be that there is a flange that covers all the contact area around the bushing:
Attachment 172288
The opposite side has plenty of exposed metal around the bushing for support when installing:
Attachment 172289
Am I stuck with having to cut/grind this flange off of the old bushing or is there some better way?

As you might expect, these things were not really intended to be replaced. It's a battle to remove the bushings. Some people burn out the rubber. Then cut out the steel. An incredible amount of work, for what could be so easy.
Possibly you could press out the rubber and then carefully cut the remaining metal bush with a hacksaw to free it up. Then use brutal tools to remove it (hammer and punch)
The other possibility is to grind off the flange and then press it out. Good luck.

I have a friend with a 20 ton press that makes this job look like child's play. Just use a socket that will seat around the inner metal ring of the bushing. Wear eye protection! There's A LOT of pressure behind pushing these out, and they can FLY once they break loose.
$200 and it's worth every penny: http://www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-...ess-32879.html. They run sales on this guy and with the 20% off coupon you can get it for around 120ish.
I'd presoak these guys in liquid wrench overnight just to add some protection to the LCA itself when pressing out.
