I've used a lot of Hawk pads and I've never heard that noise. It may not come across in the video but it was cringe-worthy while driving. Once I found out that I hadnt worn the brake down to the backing plate, I thought it might have been a defective pad.

Its also strange my Hawk pads, DTC-60 and DTC-70 even, almost never squeal. I've heard a few squeals while coming to a low speed stop under light pressure but its very rare. Its to the point I wouldn't think twice daily driving them (my s2k is not a DD though). Maybe heavy use at the track helps? I don't know. The Carbotechs I had were noticeably worse but still not bad. A buddy had Ferodo DS somethings and those were awful. Literally every time he would touch the brake pedal it would make a horrific squeal.

Yes, I bed my brakes at night so I'm familiar with the firework show.

Yeah no squeals from my DTC60s here!!! I basically drive the car out to get it washed once every 3 weeks or so unless I hit the track.

Every carbotech XP series I have had squealed like crazy after far enough time away from the track.

This is also overlooked but the DTC60 (can't speak for the other compounds) have excellent backing plates as they are really firm. On carbotech pads, the pedal was very "squishy"

I think the squeal is based on how properly they were bedded. My DTC60s dont squeal either.

I think you answered my question in the OP though: Yes, it's a marketing gimmick...and that's fukked up

Ive ran DTC 60/30 combo and 60/Street-Race combo. only difference i noticed was the street race dust was not as corrosive as the DTC. rear bite seemed about the same which was good imo. never smeared either of the pads. I have 5-7 days on the rear street race now and barely look worn.
