I have the eclipse with E-com..it has voice recognition and its nice. You can hook NAvi to it as well and a voice speaks as well as shows you as text on the screen. Pretty nice. When i get the gps receiver...ill let you know how it works. Ive heard nothing but good things about it.

G1S2k - I think I'm going to hold off till I get some more info on the eclipse. Several board memebers have advised against Blaupunkt in general.
There is one specific question I am now trying to find out about the Eclipse unit. One of the features I like about the Blaupunkt unit is that it keeps track of position 2 ways. First is by GPS signal, the second is using Dead Reckoning. Dead reckoning means that it uses an internal gyroscope to keep track of turns and a speedometer sensor to keep track of speed ( plus a sensor on the back up lights to tell if you are backing up ). This is nice, especially in areas where the view of the sky is interrupted by tall buildings or tunnels and GPS reception might be hindered.
Does anyone know if other units such as eclipse or alpine are dependant on GPS alone or if they also keep track of position in the method I described above.
Thanks -- Tom

My Alpine NVE-851 uses a multi-channel GPS, gyroscope, backup signal, and VSS (vehicle speed sensor from the transmission)... Even with all that techno stuff pinpointing exactly where you are on the surface of the Earth, the map DVD stinks for upstate NY roads... I would definitely save the $1800 navigation option next time (and I won't add it to my NAV screen that's going into my Focus)...
