1000 watts!!!
i am goin to be working on my system before i go into supercharging when i recieve my car... it is goin to be about 5 g's but i am goin to run my set up wit u guys ... tell me some suggestions if you see something wrong... thanks....
head unit : kenwood indash dvd player with flip up touch screen. ($2,399)
speakers: both pairs will be boston aquostics with tweeters and crossovers ($450-500)
amp: JL audio 1000 watt 5 channel ($849)
sub: trying to fit the 12inch JL extreme subwoofer 750 watt handling ($749)
if the 12 inch won't work out then i'll use the typical 2 8's on the side of the trunk.
the setup: the headunit will play dvd's and cds, the 1000 watts will be split to 100 watts each speaker (total of 400 watts), and drive 600 to the woofer, then i'm goin to have dynamat all in my door panels and such... so is this a good set up... please give me some advice... thanks

prices seem expensive, but maybe i'm just use to internet prices.
i don't like using 5 channel amps. you end up driving the subwoofer so much more then the speakers i think it's better to have a dedicated subwoofer amp--especially if you want to drive that much power.

Hi 9g's,
First, I don't believe there is enough clearance for the DVD player with the LCD that pops outs... Especially not when in 1st/2nd/5th gear.... You may wish to do what most have done, and have a custom mold made for the dash...
Second... Dynomatt is very expensive, use raamat... I'm using it works great and I got enough to do the whole car for only $90 (thats with shipping)....http://www.raamaudio.com
I assume that by "both pairs" means your installing front and back... Should sound real good... I really like the boston highs, but I don't like their mids too much... you may wish to consider the CDT 6 woofer, they are the best mid-bass drivers I've heard... You can always just buy the boston tweeter and hook it up with the CDT crossover... (http://www.cdtaudio.com/eurosport_drivers.htm).
I'm a big CDT pusher, but use whatever you like the most...
The other thing to think about is placement... I hear the tweeter spot used in the 2002 is ideal.. I tend to belive this is true, but I haven't heard it. It should give great left/right biasing (you hear both speakers at the same volume, not one close then the other)... and bring up the highs just high enough to be heard, but should still sound like a point source...
I've heard the tweeters in the a-piller and you get huge seperation problems... it really doesn't soud like one stage.... You can clearly tell the voice are up high and the drums/guitars/bass are all down by your knee...
My tweeters are the "braxial" style... at low volumes its obvious the speakers are by your knee.. but when cranked it gives great staging/imaging...
Have fun installing...!

thanks for your input guys... so i should have a dedicated amp for the woofer... that is goin to be a little more expensive... not much ... what else was there... a custom dvd set up... meaning i have to cut at my dash... ergh.... i dunno about the dvd no more... are you sure the kenwood wouldn't fit? model number is kvt911dvd thanks for your help guys keep them coming
I never actually did any measurments... others have said it won't fit and I believed them... The shifter is in the way.... Think of it this way.. to come out it must go the full height out towards your shifter then turn on its hinge... The full height is like 5 to 6 inches... measure out 6 inches from your current HU and see where you end up
.... Check the specs for the exact distance it must come out... it may be more...
You could go with visor screens and just buy a DVD player without the built in screen... I hear you can get the visor screens for like $300 each...

The heck with two 8" go for two 15" if you can get it to fit, then drive through Leisure World full volume!

For $850, you can get 2 good amps and still have $ left over. For instance, my setup now the PG XS4600 (75watts x 4) you can get $250-300 and for my PRS-X720 (720watts-ish x 1) you can probably steal that at about $350 nowadays. I'm talking internet prices of course...
depends how much power you want going to your fronts and sub(s)... more power is always better, you can always tune it down with the gains.
