Alpine MSRP for the 9857 is $400.00 so I would imagine retail would be $349.00 to $379.00 through Crutchfield?
Hey thanks, I couldn't find it anywhere earlier. That's not bad since you don't need the KC-401 (or whatever it's called). Of course, we'll probably find that the iPod interfce cable is $100......

I dont' see the wired control option. Did Alpine already give up on it?

Crap, it's only on the 400$$$ 9857. Was hoping to score a 9856 or 9852 with the wired remote. Such is life.

I have also been waiting for the 9857, however the pre-outs are only listed as 2 volts. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

By itself, pre-amp output voltage has nothing to do with sound quality or how loud it will play. If you have a problem with picking up noise in the cable run between the HU and amp, then higher pre-amp outs will allow you to lower the gain on the amp and reduce the noise level. But that's the only advantage I can see, other than a marketing feature to sell head units.

Thanks Modifry.

Now, how about Alpine 1-bit dac's vs. Pioneer Premier's 24 bit Burr-Brown Dac's vs. the new Kenwood Excelon's new Wolfson 24-bit Dac's? Anyone's opinions concerning these products are appreciated.
Thanks,
Thraak

Burr-Brown is certainly highly regarded, but in the sound environment of your car I think there will be virtually no difference between these DACs.

In a home sytem, where you can control every little detail of your system and have a controlled environment, you can start to distinguish subtle differences in good DACs under critical listening.
