i bought an 8 inch bazooka tube... the one's that come w/an amp already and i was wondering if it's worth installing.
i'm planning on keeping my stock head unit for now and stock speakers as well...
would this bazooka boost my sound up at all or what?
i know it'll give me bass, but will it also make my system sound louder cause as of now it's pretty lame! it barely produces high sound!
i know to achieve loudness i'll need to replace my head unit and inside speakers, but it's a big NO for now!
SO PLEASE, someone who knows... does an 8 inch do much?
I tried a number of powered sub enclosures (bazooka, infinity, etc..) and was not happy with any. So I designed my own 8" enclosure and installed an amp. A single 8" sounded great - so I made an enclosure for the other side also.
I had an old Bazooka T62 tube (2 6" woofers - not dual voice coil) in my 02 S2k for about two weeks. Was running my Infinity 605CS component speakers high passed at 85hz with a 37.5W/ch MTX Thunder amp and the sub running low passed at 85hz off the rear channels of the same amp.
The tube never seemed loud enough and was for the first time since I've had it (installed in 3 other cars) bottomed out continually, it was especially not loud enough with the top down. I did an experiment where I bridged the amp, removed the sub, and ran the Infinitys full range and what do you know, the Infinitys handle the power quite well. (the tweeters are too bright for me, give me a headache at loud volumes - have my treble control all the way down normally).
So now I don't use the sub at all and it sounds better. Still thinking of trying out a bigger, badder tube or Solobaric sub with a 300W mono block amp. Or getting the rear speaker panel - sound isn't quite right yet.
I think the 10" tube will fit, why stop at the 8"?
btw, nice job on the custom sub enclosures - how'd you do it?

The enclosures are a fiberglass shell with MDF laminated to the front. The shape is an exact mold from the passenger and drivers side of the trunk.
I think you would be surprised at how well a good quality 8" sub with a good amp hit - even more so with a pair of 8's driven at 2 ohms by a mono-block amp
He has a damn good point. There is very little respect out there for 8" subwoofers. Most people seem to think that 10's and 12's are required to get a lot of bass...WRONG! But then again, it also depends on what results you want from a subwoofer. I have two 8" JL Audio 8w3 subs in my MR2 and would never go with a bigger sub accept maybe 10's in a different car! You set a pair of 8's up properly, and they will drop very low and give you a hell of a lot of bass...most people have no idea how much! Now if your goal is to rattle all your nuts and bolts loose as quickly as possible or to shake the car next to you, then you need a pair of 10's or bigger.
